Objective of the Unit

The goal of this program is to increase access to, and improve the quality of health services through the rehabilitation of existing health facilities and construction of new facilities. It aims to provide adequately equipped, staffed and governed health facilities, customer friendly and standard health facility layout, sustainable facility and equipment maintenance and finally IT supported health system.

Ethiopia begins COVID-19 vaccine rollout

Hoping to curb a recent spike in infections, Ethiopia kicked off its COVID-19 vaccination drive on Saturday.

Jabs were administered in several major cities, including the capital Addis Ababa, where top government officials and UN representatives attended a ceremony at the Eka General Hospital.

Doctors, nurses, and support staff at the hospital, one of Ethiopia’s main COVID-19 treatment centers, were given shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Today, Ethiopia has received 2.184 million doses of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine via the COVAX Facility.

“is a historic step towards our goal to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines globally, in what will be the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history. This delivery is part of the first wave of arrivals of the COVID-19 vaccines in Ethiopia that will continue in the coming weeks,” UNICEF said in its statement.

More than 16 million birr worth of medicines and medical supplies have been distributed to health facilities in Tigray Region

The Ministry of Health has distributed over 16 million birr worth of medicines and medical equipment to various health facilities in Tigray region through the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Agency. The medicines and medical supplies were delivered to hospitals and health centers in Mekelle, Adigrat and Shire towns,transported by  a total of 9 trucks .
