Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba discussed on-going health and nutrition programs with Action Against Hunger Ethiopia CEO Dr. Charles Oubah. Action Against Hunger is working on nutrition programs in six regions, namely Amhara, Tigray, Oromia, Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz and Somali, in 45 districts and four refugee camps.

Action Against Hunger is currently implementing a three-year multi-donor project to increase food security and climate resilience of over 100,000 pastoralist and farming households, and has also launched a project to improve gender and health outcomes in four regions in line with the Seqota Declaration.

Dr. Mekdes stressed the need to focus on improving nutrition systems and ensuring that the gains made through the Seqota Declaration are not reversed, and to mobilize additional resources to improve nutrition systems. She called on Action Against Hunger to continue to provide support in a sustainable manner to children who have been affected by malnutrition and to prevent them from relapsing; the organization was also asked to expand its support to other regions beyond its current areas.

During the discussion, Action Against Hunger’s CEO, Dr. Charles Oubah, reaffirmed its commitment to training health workers, strengthening health systems, and providing essential medical supplies.

Overall, they expressed their commitment to working in strategic partnerships to improve health outcomes in Ethiopia, focusing on resource mobilization and capacity building initiatives, emphasizing the need for collective action to address challenges and ensure that vulnerable communities receive the support they need.
