The State Minister of Health, Dr. Dereje Duguma, who led the visit, said in his message that the purpose of the visit was to observe the medical services that the Global Fund has been supporting since 2003 in TB, HIV, malaria, and health system strengthening activities at the Del Fre Health Center, and to observe the changes that the Global Fund is making in the provision of services at health institutions and to create a common understanding on the conditions for continuing the eighth cycle of support.

Dr. Dereje also noted that since the Global Fund began supporting the country, the incidence and mortality rates of TB, HIV, and malaria have decreased, and that the work done on strengthening health system services, especially on oxygen plants and other support, has been useful in improving health sector service delivery.

Although the incidence of malaria has shown an increasing trend in the past 3 years, Dr. Dereje noted that many works are being done by the Ministry of Health and the regions to reduce the incidence. He thanked the Global Fund leadership for their support and asked them to continue their support in the future.

Mr. Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the service delivery provided by the health center and his observations. He pointed out that the use of the fund in Ethiopia is effective, unlike other countries, and said that the support of the Global Fund will continue to be strengthened in the efforts of the Ministry of Health to improve health services.

In his speech, Dr. Mulgeta, Deputy Head of the Addis Ababa City Health Bureau, pointed out that the support provided by the Global Fund was crucial to improving the health service needs of the community and asked for their continued support.
