The 156th session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization, of which Ethiopia is a member, is currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland.

Addressing the forum, Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba said that Ethiopia is committed to strengthening primary health care and building a strong health system.

The Minister added that efforts are being made to build a sustainable health system, increase domestic production of medical supplies, provide quality health services, and produce qualified health personnel.

She also called on the World Health Organization and other partners to continue their multifaceted support to achieve the goal of providing quality, equitable health services to the community.

This platform will enable our country to play a significant role in health diplomacy by strengthening its engagement and acceptance with other countries and is also expected to present recommendations to the World Health Assembly on current global health agendas.

The draft document submitted by our country titled “Strengthening National Capacity in evidence-based decision-making for uptake and impact of norms and standards” has also received support from more than 80 countries and is believed to create a good opportunity to increase the effectiveness of medical and community health standards and guidelines to achieve the goals set in the health sector.
