National mental, neurological and substance use health Program(NMNSP) is one of the programs under the Disease Prevention and Control Directorate is responsible for setting standards, developing and revising national guidelines, preparing national action plans including target setting, mobilizing resources necessary for capacity-building, monitoring, awareness creation, and evaluation, advocacy, and operational research, and for overseeing overall national coordination of health services and programs for mental health.
Goal
To promote mental well-being, prevent mental disorders, provide care and enhance
recovery of persons with mental health conditions and psychosocial disability.
The program also implemented mhGAP program in 2014 G.C and second national mental health strategy plan to expand the program.
Programs, projects, and initiatives
National mental, neurological, and substance use health program (NMNSP) developed a five-year national strategic plan for 2020-2025 with the overall aim of consolidating the gains made in the fight against National mental, neurological and substance use and further reduce the burden of the disease.
Role and responsibilities
- Implement mental, neurological, and substance use activities such as awareness creation, community mobilization, and advocacy work,.
- Organize, analyze, and implement information on mental health, neurological, and substance use disorder
- Prepare different mental, neurological, and substance use disorder materials such as strategic plan, guidance protocol.
- Planning mental, neurological, and substance use disorder activities
- Conducting research activities with different stakeholders
- Expand mental health service in different health facilities by integrating it with other program and collaborating with other directorates
- Organize and conduct mental health, neurological, and substance use-related seminars, workshops, and other similar forums
- Giving trainers of trainers(ToT) training and follow up
- Support mental health activities for regional health bureau
- Celebrate different mental health days in collaboration with different stakeholders for stance, professional associations, Psychiatry hospitals, Mental health service user association
- Develop Checklist and Conduct assessment on mental, neurological, and substance use disorder
- Conduct supportive supervision, mentor, and giving feedback on mental health service performances
- Strengthen information systems, evidence, and research for the mental health sector.
- Carry out control and prevention activities in collaboration with concerning body regarding mental health, neurological and substance use, and outbreak.
