Dr. Mekdes, who appreciated the Global Fund’s support, especially in the prevention of diseases such as HIV, TB, and malaria; called on the Global Fund to continue its support for efforts to improve primary health services and the overall health system. She expressed gratitude for the support the Global Fund is providing to Ethiopia.
Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands said that Ethiopia has been able to achieve better results in most health indicators; he said that he is proud of working with Ethiopia. He also noted that this collaboration has enabled the achievement of great results and has proven the effectiveness of Global Fund projects.
The Director General said that it is time for African countries to reach a consensus that they should focus on the health sector; He added that Ethiopia should set an example by increasing its budget allocation for health.
The discussion was attended by State Minister of Health Dr. Dereje Duguma and other senior officials, and extensive discussions were held on health financing, covering funding gaps, increasing domestic production, and disease prevention.
