In the fiscal year 2014, various summer volunteer activities are being carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadese, has launched a program to rehabilitate the homes of the vulnerable in Gambella town, through the summer voluntary service. With this, the house of 5 unfortunate people will be completely renovated.
In addition to starting a program to rehabilitate the homes of the unfortunate in the region, the provision of emergency medical services at the Gambella City Primary Hospital, the construction process of the regional laboratory to be built in the region, as well as the planting of seedlings at the Gambella City Health Center under the leadership message of ``Our footprints for our generation'' had been carried out.
In the program, educational materials and support were provided to 400 students from low-income families in the region.
In her speech, the Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadese said, “Our poor citizens, the sections of the society that are accessible through voluntary work in winter are not able to pay for health services, are getting support in all fields.
In addition, she stated that the summer voluntary campaign under the leadership of Goodness for our Health is being carried out to provide free health check-up and treatment services for the poor citizens at the national level by coordinating volunteer experts and private, non-governmental institutions and government health institutions. She said that this work of mutual support is important in building the country when everyone works together.
In the program, more than 1000 fruit and different tree saplings were planted in the premises of the regional health center. Dr. Lia Tadese said that this has a great contribution to prevent climate change and to create a clean environment and a healthy generation, as well as to solve the problems faced by the food system.
She also stated that the region is one of the areas where malaria epidemics occur, so it will continue to be given attention.
Minister of Health Dr. Lia Tadese, Minister of State Dr. Darje Dguma, officials of the Ministry of Health and the respondent institutions, including the Governor of Gambella Region, cabinet members, officials and employees were present at the program.
The Governor of the region, Honorable Ato Tankuay Jok, has stated that the Ministry of Health, the management and officials of the respondent institutions are working closely with the region.
