A workshop was held on the 3-year project to alleviate the shortage of manpower and create employment opportunities for graduate doctors.
Habtamu Demissie, Director of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Health, said the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with partner organizations and regional health bureaus, is working on a project to recruit new doctors. He said a budget has been finalized to employ 2,898 doctors who have graduated since 2011 but haven’t been employed.
The workshop was attended by participants from the Regional Head Office, the City Administration, the Regional and City Administration Health Bureau and Finance Bureau, as well as the Ministry of Health and partner organizations. Discussions were held with regional and city administrations on how to implement the project, taking into account the realities of their region and city. Representatives of regional and city administrations, for their part, presented their discussions on the workshop and its discussions. It is said that in the future, an action plan will be put in place to work in accordance with the direction set.
The project was officially launched on December 21, 2014 in collaboration with the Regional and City Administration Health Offices. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Health and the regional and city health bureaus on that day.
