INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE COMMEMORATION DAY is being celebrated around the world under the theme "INVEST IN HEALTH SYSTEMS FOR ALL".
During the occasion, it has been called upon partners to continue their partnership and work to rehabilitate and equip war-torn health facilities.
It has also been said that ensuring universal health care will not only improve health but also reduce poverty, improve nutrition through schooling and ensure peace and social stability. It is said community health insurance and social health insurance should be expanded to increase access to health services, strengthen local funding sources and use various initiatives.
Dr. Borima Hama Sambo, Ethiopia's Representative to the World Health Organization, on his part said that evidence shows that covid 19 has a significant impact on health financing. "In Ethiopia, in addition to covid19, the security situation in the country is disrupting the health service, he said, adding that all stakeholders should work together to continue the service."
In commemoration of the day the United Nations declared universal health coverage necessary for global development, it is designed to strengthen stakeholders’ partnerships to make health services more accessible to all.
This year, Ethiopia celebrates the need for primary health care to ensure universal health coverage and encourages actions by the government and other stakeholders.
